HOPE Czech Glass Mardi Gras Beads #164

Presented is a strand of vintage Czech Mardi Gras beads from the 20's/30's. Mary Elaine of Soul Heirs recreated this strand. This strand is the marriage of history and hope. I incorporated vintage strands of beads thrown from the parade floats during the early eras that needed restringing. I decided that the beads needed some "hope" to promote healing for the many lives devastated from Hurricane Katrina. My son recently visited with friends in NOLA. He stated that he felt such an overwhelming emptiness as he walked through the neighborhoods, as though he could feel the haunting of so many who perished. Many homes still remain empty. It is still a very sad state in this once illustrious corner of the world - so please when possible let us not forget. We need to ensure the future of this cradle of cultural gumbo that will live on in our hearts and memories. Let hope keep the promise to rebuild the lives and homes of those who suffer the cruelty that Katrina caused. Soul Heirs will donate 25% of the selling price to the "The Backbeat Foundation" http://www.backbeatfoundation.org/ , a Foundation that provides resources and support to local musicians in New Orleans - the seat of the soul of the culture of New Orleans! Soul Heirs will make the donation in your name (if you so wish) to that foundation. Soul Heirs will not claim this donation as the purchaser of the beads may choose to.
